Blessed Art Thou: Images of the Virgin Mary in the Ahmanson Collection

On November 2, 2019 the Ahmanson Gallery unveiled Blessed Art Thou, a collection of works drawn from the Ahmanson Collection representing the Virgin Mary. This exhibition, comprised of art works representing an eclectic array of media and scope, spanning 500 years, takes the viewer on a dramatic journey exploring both the chronological story of Mary detailing five very distinct themes: Annunciation, Nativity, Pietà, Madonna and Child, and Mother of God, as well as an intimate view of the inner life of the woman who would become the Mother of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

In addition to the exhibition, the evening featured a talk by Wheaton College Associate Professor of Art History Matthew Milliner and a performance by Scottish pianist and composer Euan Stevenson, joined by the Choral Arts Initiative Choir, conducted by Daniel Gee.
