The fourth annual gathering of the Chadwick-Oden lecture series featured The Very Reverend Dr. John Behr presenting "Origen on the Psalms." Fr. Behr is a British Orthodox priest, theologian, and scholar known for his work on early Christianity and Patristic theology. He is currently the Regius Professor of Humanity at the University of Aberdeen and has previously served as the Dean of St. Vladimir's Orthodox Theological Seminary. He is also a prolific author and holds the Metropolitan Kallistos Chair of Orthodox Theology at the Vrije Universiteit of Amsterdam.
Fr. Behr was commended by former Archbishop of Canterbury (and inaugural speaker of the Chadwick-Oden lecture series) Rowan Williams as one of the most significant English-speaking Orthodox theologians of his generation.
Hosted at St. Michael's Abbey in Silverado Canyon, the event included two lectures by Fr. Behr, The Key of David and ‘I Said You Are Gods’.
The audience of 130 included Priscilla Chadwick, daughter of the late Henry Chadwick, as well as Ed and Tal Oden, son and nephew of the late Thomas C. Oden.
The day concluded with a cocktail reception in the Abbey's library, home to Henry Chadwick's personal book collection and Thomas Oden's rare books and incunabula collection. The library was designed by Danish artist Maja Lisa Engelhardt, who created original stained glass windows and bronzes.
