Close to Home: Art from Around the World
The Ahmanson Gallery celebrated the opening of its latest show, Close to Home: Art from Around the World in the Ahmanson Collection , with a native Hawaiian performance by award-winning singer-songwriter Ali'i Keanaaina, his brother Nui, and dancer Megan Hanato. Before introducing the exhibition, curator John Silvis moderated a conversation between art patron Roberta Ahmanson and ethnic art scholar Patrick A. Polk . Polk is the Fowler Museum 's curator of Caribbean and Latin American popular arts and a lecturer in the UCLA Department of World Arts and Cultures/Dance. He is an expert in a host of arts from Caribbean and Latin American cultures, particularly folk arts.
